Are you interested in creating a mindful morning routine with CBD? The way you start each day has a tremendous impact on how the rest of the day unfolds.
How do you typically start your day?
Are you up at 6 a.m.? Do you slowly sip on your coffee or tea while contemplating the day ahead and making a mental (or physical) to-do list? Are you meditating and engaging in a relaxing yoga flow before heading out the door, ready for whatever the day may bring?
Not so much?
Don’t feel bad.
Most people don’t start the day off with a mindful morning routine. We hit snooze on the alarm clock until we force ourselves out of bed. We rush around madly trying to make it out the door and end up scattered, unfocused, and feeling rushed all day, never quite getting done what needs to get done.
We then complain about how our day went, without even realizing what a profound effect simply starting our day out differently could have had on how our day unfolded.
Why a Morning Routine Matters
If all this rushing around and morning madness sounds familiar, it’s time to incorporate a bit of mindfulness into your morning routine.
Mornings are when the magic happens. Don’t believe us? Some of the most successful people in the world have a dedicated morning routine.
Oprah Winfrey’s mindful morning routine starts out with 20 minutes of meditation, which she says gives her “hope, a sense of contentment and deep joy.” She then exercises for at least 15 minutes, then “tunes herself in” by going for a walk, preparing a meal or listening to music. Her morning routine always ends with a healthy meal.
Tim Ferris, author of the 4-Hour Work Week, starts out his morning by making his bed, which he contends fills him with a sense of pride and makes him feel like he’s immediately accomplished something. He then meditates for 10-20 minutes, exercises for at least 30 minutes and drinks a strong cup of tea. He completes his mindful morning routine by journaling for a bit, something he says assists to “push the ball forward and feel better throughout the day.”
At Joy Organics, we’ve developed our own version of a mindful morning routine. Staying true to our roots, our mindful morning routine incorporates CBD.
If you’re ready to stop hitting snooze and finally make the most out of your mornings, we’re happy to share our tips for a relaxing, mindful morning routine. We can even supply the CBD.
6 Ways to Create a Relaxing, Mindful Morning Routine
1. Set Your Alarm for 20 Minutes Earlier
What if, instead of hitting snooze on your alarm for 20 minutes each morning, you actually got up 20 minutes earlier? Don’t underestimate the power those extra 20 minutes can have on your day. Imagine a morning where you’re not rushing around like crazy, but rather letting the day unfold with an increased sense of calm.
Getting up earlier each morning can improve your sleep cycle, improve productivity levels, improve concentration and more. If you’ve never been a morning person, you’d be amazed at how quiet the world is early in the morning. We like to think the world is just a bit softer at 6 a.m. Getting up this early is the first step to creating a mindful morning that will help you make the most out of the rest of your day.
2. List 5 Things You’re Thankful for Before You Get out of Bed
If you’re like most people, your mind starts racing from the moment you wake up — thoughts of what needs to be done today, what happened yesterday, what went wrong the day before and a million other things.
Did you ever stop to think about the fact that waking up in itself is something to be thankful for?
Want to create a mindful morning routine that will help you greet each day like the gift it truly is? Think of five things you’re thankful for before you even get out of bed. It could be something that happened the previous day, the fact that you have a job to go to (even if you hate it) or that you have a roof over your head. Seriously, there’s always something to be thankful for each day.
Practicing gratitude is one of the habits of happy people. Giving thanks can help you experience more positive emotions, increase your sleep quality, be a more kind and compassionate human being and support your physical health. Starting the day by listing five things you’re thankful for sounds way better to us than scrolling social media — which just so happens to bring us to our next step in a mindful morning routine.
3. Don’t Look at Your Phone
Did you know that research shows that 80% of smartphone users check their phones within 15 minutes of waking up? Whether this is checking their email, updating their social media status (“hey world, just woke up”), stalking someone’s Instagram story or any of the million other things a smartphone allows you to do, reaching for your phone is a big no-no if you want to start your day off a bit more mindfully.
Your phone isn’t going anywhere. The emails can wait. So can the status update or any stalking (which we don’t really recommend any time of the day). According to Jeff Sanders, author of The 5 A.M. Miracle, “I highly recommend you don’t watch television, or even check email until you have completed your most important morning habit. Technology is enticing, but it’s also a major distraction that prevents us from doing what we know is best for us.”
If you want to bring more mindfulness to your mornings, do yourself a favor and skip looking at your phone first thing when you wake up.
4. Meditate (Or Just Sit in Quiet Contemplation for a Few Minutes)
These days, it seems that everyone from CEOs to celebrities to soccer moms are embracing a regular meditation practice. Some of the most successful people in the world swear by meditation. Oprah. Michael Jordan. Russell Brand. Steve Jobs. The list goes on and on.
There’s a reason meditation has gone mainstream. It works. While studies on mindfulness and meditation are scant, the research that has been conducted shows that slowing down the mind can significantly impact the brain, ultimately changing our behavior and the way we react to the world.
Meditating for just 5-10 minutes each morning has the potential to radically transform your day. Not only does it set the tone for calm and relaxation for the rest of the day but can also boost energy levels, increase focus and productivity, and increase an overall sense of wellbeing. A morning meditation practice can help instill a sense of mindfulness that spills out into the rest of your day, allowing you to face whatever you encounter with a greater sense of ease and grace.
If you aren’t a meditator and/or have no desire to start meditating, simply sitting in quiet contemplation for a few minutes each morning before you start your day can help instill a sense of mindfulness. It’s also much more relaxing than immediately rushing into whatever the day might bring.
5. Get in a Serving of CBD
It’s estimated that 64% of Americans drink at least one cup of coffee every day. Americans also consume more coffee than any other country in the world. At Joy Organics, we’re no strangers to drinking coffee in the morning. But before we do so, we take our daily serving of CBD. You see, we’ve seen CBD have a tremendously positive impact on our own lives and know from experience that it may be used to help maintain a state of general wellness.
We believe that part of a mindful morning routine includes being mindful of what we put in our bodies. Starting the day off with things we know could potentially benefit our overall wellness only makes sense when starting each day out mindfully.
A typical morning for us might include taking a CBD gummy bites, softgels, or tincture before our morning cup of coffee. Then there are the days we feel we need an extra boost and prepare our own version of bulletproof coffee to start the day. When we have a bit more time in the mornings, we’ll mindfully prepare a superfood CBD smoothie.
Seeing how much CBD has benefited our own lives, it only makes sense to us to include it in our mindful morning routine. Since CBD may help support a sense of relaxation and focus, we think it’s one of the best additions anyone could incorporate into the way they start their day.
6. Commit to Mindfully Moving Your Body
Getting up 20 minutes earlier each day allows you to squeeze in at least 15 minutes of mindful movement. Did you know that mindfully engaging in a gentle form of exercise for even 10 minutes each day can have a significant impact on the rest of your day?
Try taking a walk around the block, engaging in a relaxing yoga routine or taking up Tai Chi. Take things a step further and hit the gym, jump in the pool or take the kayak out on the lake for 20 minutes.
Committing to mindfully moving your body is an excellent part of an established morning routine and will increase energy levels, enhance your mood, improve your sleep and more.
Things to Keep in Mind When Establishing a Mindful Morning Routine with CBD
When it comes to starting out the day, everyone is different. Our mindful morning routine might look much different than yours.
One of the most important things you can do when establishing a mindful morning routine is listen to your intuition. On different days, your body might need different things. Honor this.
Keep in mind, however, that engaging in a mindful morning routine can improve your life in more ways than you might ever begin to imagine. We also strongly believe that taking CBD each morning could do the same.
