How to Make CBD Tea

How to Make CBD Tea

Share:

Teas and tonics have been common in wellness circles dating back to when our ancestors sat in circles around the fire. If you have a cold, you make tea. A hangover, a hot toddy. For overall wellness, you can now make yourself hemp CBD tea. But just how to make CBD tea with leaves?

CBD tea is a great way to unwind after a stressful day. It takes the comfort that we know, love and associate with tea and blends it with the benefits experienced using CBD products. For those not interesting in making your own CBD tea, there are a few companies that make exceptional cannabinoid-infused teas with CBD. Sky & Wyatt is one such business, combining whole leaf tea with full spectrum hemp extract.

Now, let’s take a look at how to make CBD tea.

Why Drink CBD Tea?

Hemp tea was a favorite of the Chinese emperor Shen-Nung. Back in 2737 B.C., the Pen Ts’ao Ching noted that the emperor used to steep the leaves in tea to support relaxation. Today, the many benefits of hemp are widely known.

Within cannabis there are reported to be over 100 phytocannabinoids. These are chemical compounds that contain a wide range of benefits due to their interaction with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Benefits of CBD include helping to:

  • Support a good night’s rest
  • Maintain a sense of overall wellness
  • Assist post-workout recovery
  • Support healthy skin

These are just a few of the uses for CBD. By consuming this tea, you may find support for any of those areas.

So, how to make CBD tea? There are two ways to make CBD hemp tea: using the actual hemp plant and activating the phytocannabinoids yourself or using a CBD oil. However, using hemp leaves isn’t a viable option for most people.

Why Hemp Leaves Aren’t Ideal

There are several reasons why using hemp leaves isn’t practical to make CBD tea. For one, they’re not readily available at every shop. Purchasing hemp leaves isn’t like going to the grocery store and buying basil.

Then there’s the decarboxylation process. It’s a lot of work to make tea with hemp leaves. Plus, you run the risk of drying your hemp out or burning off precious cannabinoids. Suffice to say, using hemp leaves to make tea increasing the odds of diluting the plant’s potential potency.

You must also consider the oil-water situation. As CBD is not naturally water soluble, you must add a fatty base to your tea to help with absorption. Adding in coconut milk or coconut oil makes for a more filling tea, which may not be ideal. How to make hemp tea? One of the best ways to simplify your CBD hemp tea project is to use CBD tinctures.

How to Make Tea With CBD Tinctures

Joy Organics CBD Tinctures are a great way to add flavor and a serving of cannabinoids to any meal, snack or tea. What makes CBD tinctures so ideal for tea is that they are simple to use. You dictate the serving and flavor by the number of drops you include in your brew.

As tinctures are often oil-based, the CBD still won’t absorb into the tea water. However, many tinctures contain a carrier oil, such as MCT oil or extra-virgin olive oil, that will help your body with the absorption issue. You will just need to stir your tea more often to keep the flavor and CBD dispersed.

Tinctures also come in a wide variety of flavors, such as lemon or mint, so you’ll get the added benefit of essential oils and an even greater taste in your CBD tea.

Tea With Tinctures Basics

We’re going to explain how to make CBD tea with tinctures a little backward. With this recipe, we’re going to give generic ingredients and directions and then suggest some flavor pairings. In essence, those flavor pairings will be ingredients, but we digress!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Pour distilled water into a pot and place on the stove over medium-high heat.
  2. Once boiling or close to boiling, put choice of tea leaves into pot and cover.
  3. Steep for approximately five minutes.
  4. Take off heat, strain out the tea leaves and allow to cool for a few minutes. Cooling is essential — your CBD may lose potency when subjected to high temperatures.
  5. Add in the CBD tincture and stir.
  6. Wait about five minutes before serving.
